Most of the content on ))LaoWiki.com(( will be in the form of a wiki pages, meaning that everybody can edit them.

Wiki pages lend themselves well to pure information: data such as timetables, locations, prices, definitions, etc. The wiki pages here are the reason this site exists: to provide information about Laos that can be updated by anyone who cares.

There will also be a limited number of articles - essays by some individual about a particular subject. These tend to be more journalistic in nature (for better or worse).

If you want to have a discussion about something, the best place is probably on one of the forums.

Blogs on ))LaoWiki(( should tend towards the original weblog concept, in order to make their purpose distinct from wiki pages, articles, and forums. So a blog post is likely to be like a journal, or a pointer to some interesting content online, that sort of thing - rather than some useful information (which should go on a wiki page) or an essay, or a discussion point.

We have created some galleries for the site, and users can upload pictures to them and comment on gallery content.

It is actually possible to comment on just about any bit of content on LaoWiki, so you can interact just about anywhere. However a comment might not always be the most appropriate way to communicate:
  • If there's a mistake on a wiki page, maybe you can just correct it! If you're not sure, a comment could be helpful - or you could contact the publishers at admin[at]laowiki[dot]com. Or perhaps start a discussion in a forum?
  • If you want to contact a user directly, you can send them a message either by using the link by their name (if available), or by going to the Messages part of MyTiki and addressing a message to the user name.
There's no plan to be horribly prescriptive about commenting, but it would help everyone if the site doesn't become a mess with no clear venue for a particular type of content.

Please bear in mind that to contribute any content to the site you must register. Your information will be kept entirely private. Registration is just necessary to prevent abuse by spammers, vandals, etc.
